What is this?

A GPA (Grade Point Average) calculator computes your cumulative average based on letter grades and credits. Weighted GPAs give bonus points for AP/Honors classes (up to 5.0 scale), while unweighted GPAs use standard 4.0 scale regardless of course difficulty.

How to use

Choose weighted or unweighted scale, then add your classes with letter grades, credits (typically 0.5 or 1.0 per semester), and course type (Regular, Honors, or AP/IB). The calculator shows your cumulative GPA and grade distribution.

Tips

  • Weighted GPA: A in AP = 5.0, A in Honors = 4.5, A in Regular = 4.0 (colleges compare applicants fairly)
  • Most colleges recalculate to unweighted GPA - don't rely solely on inflated weighted numbers
  • 3.0+ GPA opens doors to most state universities, 3.5+ for competitive schools, 3.9+ for top-tier
  • Focus on taking challenging courses (AP/Honors) even if grade slightly lower - colleges value rigor
  • One C won't ruin your GPA if you have mostly A's/B's - upward trend matters more than perfection
  • For college apps: 4 years of English/Math/Science/Social Studies + 2-3 years Foreign Language minimum
  • Class rank often matters as much as GPA - 3.7 at competitive school > 4.0 at easy school
