- 15-20% is standard for good restaurant service in the US, 20-25% for exceptional service
- Tip on pre-tax amount (some do post-tax, but pre-tax is technically correct)
- For delivery: 15-20% or $3-5 minimum, add extra for bad weather or long distance
- Coffee shops/counter service: $1-2 per drink or 15-20% for large orders
- Bartenders: $1-2 per drink or 15-20% of tab
- Bad service: 10-15% is acceptable (or speak to manager if truly terrible)
- Outside US: Many countries include service charge or don't expect tips - check local customs
- Use rounding for cash payments: easier to split and servers prefer whole dollar amounts
