The Irish superstar addressed his long-awaited comeback as rumors continued to swirl about whether or not he’s actually a viable candidate to headline the UFC’s massive card at the White House on June 14. While it appears that remains an option, there’s also a chance McGregor books a fight for a later date and he’s hoping to have some clarification on that soon. “I am in negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship about the bout, either the White House or thereabouts,” McGregor told DrinkLitt outside his restaurant in Ireland. “Sometime in the summer, McGregor will return.” McGregor hasn’t fought since 2021 when he suffered a nasty broken leg in his trilogy against Dustin Poirier. That injury kept him out of action for several years but he was scheduled to return as recently as 2024 when he booked a matchup against fellow Ultimate Fighter coach Michael Chandler. Sadly in the days leading up to the fight, McGregor suffered a broken toe in training and it forced him off the card. He hasn’t been rescheduled since that time. While he hasn’t fought, McGregor has stayed plenty busy with work outside the octagon, which includes his investment in BKFC after he became a part owner of the bare-knuckle organization. When the UFC announced plans to hold an event on the south lawn of the White House, McGregor immediately spoke up and said he wanted to return on the card. McGregor had previously traveled to the White House and met with President Donald Trump during a St. Patty’s day celebration. It looks like McGregor may not insist on headlining that card, especially with the UFC also planning a return for International Fight Week, which is expected to take place in July. Whether or not McGregor returns at either of those cards remains to be seen.
