What is this?
The BAC Calculator estimates your blood alcohol content using the Widmark formula, which accounts for drinks consumed, body weight, biological sex, and time elapsed since drinking, to show your current impairment level and when your BAC will reach zero. How to use
Enter your biological sex, body weight, number of standard drinks (12 oz beer = 5 oz wine = 1.5 oz spirits = 1 standard drink), hours since your first drink, and whether you drank on an empty stomach. The calculator estimates current BAC, impairment classification, and time to sobriety.Tips
- This is an estimate only — actual BAC varies by individual metabolism, medications, genetics, and hydration level.
- One standard drink raises BAC by approximately 0.02–0.04% depending on body weight; smaller people reach higher BAC from the same drinks.
- Your body eliminates alcohol at roughly 0.015% BAC per hour regardless of food, coffee, cold showers, or exercise.
- Food slows alcohol absorption by up to 50% but does not reduce the total alcohol processed; your peak BAC is lower but lasts longer.
- Women typically reach a higher BAC than men from the same drinks due to a lower body water percentage (Widmark r-factor).
- Alcohol impairs driving at levels well below 0.08% — reaction time and decision-making degrade from the very first drink.
- If there is any question about driving safety, use rideshare — a DUI typically costs $10,000–$15,000 in fines, legal fees, and insurance increases.
- Signs of alcohol poisoning (BAC 0.25%+): unconsciousness, vomiting while asleep, slow or irregular breathing — call 911 immediately.
