What is this?
A baby feeding tracker helps parents calculate appropriate feeding amounts and schedules for infants. It uses age and weight to determine daily intake needs, feeding frequency, and portion sizes for formula or breast milk. The calculator provides age-appropriate expectations and helps establish healthy feeding routines. How to use
Select your baby's age range, enter current weight in pounds, and choose feeding type (formula, breast milk, or combination). The calculator shows total daily intake, feedings per day, ounces per feeding, expected intervals, and a sample schedule.Tips
- Formula: 2.5 oz per pound of body weight per day (e.g., 10 lb baby = 25 oz daily)
- Breast milk: Slightly more at 2.7 oz per pound due to easier digestion
- Newborns (0-1 month): 8-12 feedings per day, every 2-3 hours
- 2-3 months: 6-8 feedings per day, 4-6 oz per feeding
- 4-6 months: 5-6 feedings per day, 6-8 oz per feeding
- 6-12 months: 3-5 feedings per day, plus solid foods
- Feed on demand for newborns - crying often means hunger
- Hunger cues: rooting, sucking fists, lip smacking, fussiness
- Full cues: turns head away, closes mouth, slows sucking
- Growth spurts (3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months): temporary increased hunger
- Breast milk storage: 4 hours room temp, 4 days fridge, 6 months freezer
- Formula prep: Use powder within 1 month, prepared bottle within 1 hour
- Burp after every 2-3 oz to reduce gas and spit-up
- Introduce solids around 6 months (sit up, lost tongue-thrust reflex)
- Never prop bottle - choking hazard, ear infection risk
