FAQ
How much sleep does my baby need?
Sleep needs vary by age: Newborns (0-3 months): 14-17 hours total, 4 naps. 3-6 months: 14-15 hours, 3 naps. 6-12 months: 13-14 hours, 2-3 naps. 12-18 months: 13-14 hours, 2 naps. 18-24 months: 12-13 hours, 1 nap. 2-3 years: 11-13 hours, 1 nap (some drop naps by age 3).
What are wake windows and why do they matter?
Wake windows are how long baby can comfortably stay awake between sleeps. Following age-appropriate wake windows prevents overtiredness (makes sleep harder) and undertiredness (not tired enough to sleep). Newborns: 45-75 min. 3-6 months: 1.5-2.5 hours. 6-12 months: 2-3.5 hours. 12-24 months: 3-6 hours. Watch for sleepy cues before the window closes.
When should I drop to fewer naps?
Nap transitions happen gradually. Signs to drop a nap: takes long to fall asleep for naps, skips a nap consistently, fights bedtime or wakes very early. Typical transitions: 4→3 naps at 3-6 months. 3→2 naps at 6-9 months. 2→1 nap at 15-18 months. Drop last nap at 3-4 years (if ready). Use longer wake windows during transition weeks.
