How do I calculate pet medication dosage by weight?

Dosage is usually mg per kg or lb. Example: Medication is 5 mg/kg, dog weighs 20 kg → 5 × 20 = 100 mg dose. Always use your pet's exact weight (weigh them!), not an estimate. Round down for safety if between tablet sizes. Never split pills unless vet approves.

Can I give my pet human medication?

Some are safe (vet-approved only!): Benadryl for allergies, Pepcid for upset stomach. Many are TOXIC: Ibuprofen, Tylenol (deadly to cats), Aleve, aspirin (cats), Xanax. Always call vet first. Pet medications are dosed differently and metabolize differently than humans.

What if I miss a dose of my pet's medication?

Give it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for the next dose (within 2-4 hours). Never double-dose to "catch up." For critical meds (heart, seizure, insulin), call your vet. Set phone reminders to avoid missed doses.
